Olayinka Community Embraces IDI’s Connectivity Hub Initiative

As part of preparations for the Community Self-Built Sustainable Connectivity Hubs Project, Initiative for Digital Inclusion (IDI) undertook a Community Engagement Visit to Olayinka Community in Ifelodun Local Government Area, Kwara State, on 7th August 2025.

The visit aimed at fostering collaboration towards establishing a Connectivity Hub that will help to bridge the digital divide by providing the residents with access to internet broadband, digital skills, and socio-economic opportunities in the digital economy.

Our representative was warmly received by the Baale of Olayinka, Aweda Salman Olatunji, alongside chiefs, clergy, women leaders, youth representatives, and other community leaders.

During the visit, IDI introduced the project concept and highlighted its benefits to the community. The community representatives affirmed their buy-in, pledging to contribute local resources and volunteer efforts to ensure the project’s sustainability. They also guided IDI representative to the proposed hub site, where a preliminary assessment was conducted to evaluate the community’s readiness — the results were positive.

Next Steps

Following this engagement, IDI and Olayinka community will work hand-in-hand to:

  • Construct the community hub, combining IDI’s technical support with local contributions of labour and resources to foster a sense of ownership.
  • Carry out a sensitization campaign under IDI’S guidance to ensure that the residents of the community are fully aware of the hub’s opportunities, services, and benefits.
  • Launch the hub in a community-led event to officially open the facility for use.

This project is sponsored by the UK Government’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) under its Digital Access Programme (DAP).
